OpenMage
OpenMage, also known as OpenMage LTS or MageLTS, is a community-maintained, backward-compatible fork of Magento 1 Community Edition (Magento CE).
The project was created to continue the development and maintenance of Magento 1 after its official end of life. It provides an upgrade path for existing Magento 1 stores while preserving the familiar Magento 1 architecture, extensions, themes, and administration interface.
OpenMage continues to receive:
- security fixes and vulnerability patches;
- bug fixes and stability improvements;
- support for modern PHP versions;
- performance and compatibility improvements;
- community-maintained updates to the original Magento 1 codebase.
LTS stands for Long Term Support.
For stores still running Magento 1, migrating to OpenMage is usually a significantly smaller change than migrating to Magento 2 because the existing Magento 1 codebase can largely be retained. However, custom extensions, themes, core modifications, and compatibility with newer PHP versions should be reviewed before upgrading.
